There’s nothing lovelier and more awe-inspiring than the snow-covered countryside in winter. With countless attractive ski runs, impressive mountain ranges and reliable snow from the beginning of December till the end of April, it’s not surprising that the Montafon winter sports area has become a Mecca for skiers, snowboarders, winter walkers and ski tourers alike. Gargellen, nestling in the heart of the Montafon, is the height of winter sports perfection in every sense of the word!

From December right through to April Gargellen offers perfect conditions for exploring the diverse and challenging ski runs on the sunny Schafberg plateau.
With imposing mountains, a broad and varied series of ski runs, and easily accessible powder slopes, Gargellen is also, thanks to its manageable size, ideal for families.
Its wide-open ski runs, ancient mountain huts, fun events programme and countless other attractions make Gargellen extremely popular with skiers, snowboarders and carvers alike. Even pedestrians can access the spacious sun terrace on the Schafberg plateau, where they can enjoy wonderful panoramic views and a winter walking track.
Thanks to its altitude (the bottom station of the cable car is located at a height of 1,423 m above sea level), and also due to the latest snow-making equipment, Gargellen can boast reliable snow conditions from December right through to April; during this time guests can normally ski back to the front door of the hotel.

The 42 ski and snowboard instructors of the Gargellen ski & snowboard school take great pride in their mutual collaboration and team spirit. Using the latest individualised creative teaching techniques as opposed to more confrontational traditional methods, the ski school helps our guests obtain maximum enjoyment and benefit from their ski course experience.
Here in the Montafon we offer ski tours of all standards, from the simple to the challenging: beginners and experts alike will find the perfect ski tour for their needs and ability. Winter walking in Gargellen
Our selection of well-prepared winter walking tracks provides a gentle way to enjoy the slumbering beauty of the winter scenery.
Thanks to its position high in the mountains, Gargellen is especially lovely in winter, offering stunning views both in the village and from the Schafberg plateau. Walking on well-groomed tracks in such an idyllic landscape is romantic, therapeutic and very good for you! Walkers enjoying the Gargellen winter landscape will revel in the fact that the only noise to be heard is the rhythmic crunching of the snow beneath their feet! Nature at is best.
Winter walking tracks
- The Vergalden circular walk *1
Follow the Vergalden road until you reach Haus Plazza Bella. From here a 1 kilometre circular walking route introduces you to some stunning winter scenery. Walking time approx. 2 hours. An alternative route through the Vergalden woods *1a .Pass the bottom station of the Gargellen gondola and follow the Vergalden stream to the start of the circular walk. Total length approx. 800 metres
Walking time approx. 45 minutes. - Walk to "the Röbi plateau" *2
Follow the Suggadin track (*3) as far as the bridge by Haus Gariella. Cross the river here and follow the main road for approx. 20 m. After the curve, turn left onto a cleared side road leading into the woods. Continue along this side road, which ascends through a majestic forest of firs in a series of hair-pin curves to reach the Roebi plateau. Total distance (there and back) approx. 1.5 km.
Walking time approx. 1 hour. - Winter magic along the Suggadin river *3
Follow the Suggadin river past Haus Gariella, and continue down the valley on the Suggadin track until you reach Höhe “Borschtboden” Then follow the road down the valley for approx. 250 metres and cross the bridge to rejoin the walking track. Follow this until you reach the Valisera bridge. Total distance (there and back): approx. 3.5 km. Walking time approx. 2 hours - Winter walking track on the Schafberg plateau
This high altitude walking track takes you from the top station of the gondola towards the Valzifenz drag-lift, then continues towards Schlüachteck before curving back towards the gondola. Total distance approx. 1.5 km Walking time approx. 1/2 hour
